Will Tudor did not declare a candidacy.
There are three candidates -- Kennedy, Huntington, and Samaria -- and those are our three Commissioners in November.
We have saved ourselves about $12K, which we would have had to pay to add Commissioners to the general election.
I don’t know if that means we won’t have an election or not. We elect people to varying terms of office, so an election remains to be seen.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking today to someone very much in the know, and we couldn't figure out if one of the new Commissioners might agree to a short term, or straws would be drawn, or what.
DeleteThis “anon” is MacDonald Kennedy. My personal cell is rather coy.
ReplyDeleteTo be clear, we will have an election in November for the Biscayne Park commission. Our charter provides for the election to not only select the candidates but also to determine their terms of office. The candidates in first and second place earn four-year terms and third place earns a two year term. So we will have an election so to determine the terms for each of the three new commissioners. This per our village attorney.
ReplyDeleteMac.
What if one of the candidates agrees in advance to a two year term, in order to save the Village $12K?
DeleteThere appears to be some disagreement between the Village clerk and the attorney as to what the rule is. The clerk has had this kind of job reportedly for 20 years, and says she is aware of the rule regarding length of term.
