Hello neighbor,
So many of you have asked me about the flowers on my campaign signs for Biscayne Park Commissioner, I thought I should explain. I’ll cover that in a minute, but first some quick, final election news.
I’m a bit old-school about elections. I feel a genuine patriotism about them, which was steeped into my brain as a kid. I have the fondest memories of election day in my elementary school, when my mom would take my little brother and me by the hand into the booth when she voted. She would let us each click a lever for her, which was a thrill even without completely understanding what was happening. After “we” voted, she sent us into school with some extra change to buy something at the bake sale during recess. Maybe it was the promise of homemade brownies that made elections so exciting then.
Now, even without the bake sale, I still love elections. Nothing makes me feel so genuinely proud to be an American as casting my vote. Wearing my “I Voted!” sticker makes me walk a bit taller all day. This election, for the second time, I also get to see my name on the ballot for Biscayne Park Commissioner, which is a special thrill of its own. I am proud to volunteer my time, skills, and energy to my community, and I am humbled by the support I’ve received the past few months while campaigning. I was also happy to be challenged by so many questions from neighbors who share my concerns about our future.
While I’d be remiss if I didn’t make a final request for your vote, I’m really writing this email to say thanks if you already voted or to encourage you to vote on Tuesday at the Rec Center. Regardless of whether you vote for either of the Williams, Judi, Fred, Art, or me—or whatever combination makes sense to you—please, just vote on Tuesday.
For those concerned about safety, be assured that the village has taken every precaution to make voting easy, fast, and safe. The entire Rec Center and park are closed to all activities except voting, and the building has been sanitized. And, the police will be spending a lot of extra time in the area, too. The only minor annoyance will be the gauntlet of supporters handing out fliers. I don’t know what the other candidates will be doing on Tuesday, but I’ll be at the polls all day … across the street, out of your way.
Now, about those flowers on my yard signs. I’m an avid gardener, and my husband, Dan Schneiger, and I created a butterfly garden out on our street for kids to enjoy during COVID. That’s how we met so many of you this year, which was a lot of fun during a stressful time. In much the same way, those silly plastic flowers on my yard signs are a small way to bring a smile in the final days of a particularly stressful election.
As a small gesture to the community, Dan and I will be passing out Milkweed seeds on Tuesday at the Rec Center. Whether you vote then or you’ve already voted (and regardless of who you vote for), stop by, say hello and pick up seeds for your garden. As we close out a rough year, I think we’d all benefit from enjoying something as simple as a flowering plant that attracts butterflies into our lives and into our “Oasis in the Heart of Miami.”

I think it’s time now to create some kind of czar to oversee commission conduct and same goes for this particular mayorReporting to them A committee to be created as a watch guard over the commissioners and the mayor to make recommendations on performance levels reason being there’s nobody watching these commissioners and mayor this particular in the position to oversee someone from the outside overseeing the whole body commissioners and mayor it could also be called an oversight board nobody gets paid no cell phones it’s a reporting board The board gathers information on the commissioners performance and the mayors performance I hope that someone is listening to this because it’s extremely important an oversight committee are these commissioners go through any type of background check are they vetted if not we need to initiate that immediately background check should be standard this exhibition flower bed for children needs to be supervised with the proper security whether it’s the Biscayne Park volunteer police team And what are the times of this Flower exhibition this needs to be brought up at the meeting

ReplyDeleteWell, I gave up my right to opine on the Village’s budget a while ago. But I do think the Village has much bigger issues than cell phones. But hey, what do I know?

But however many it is, and whatever are their genders, if one of your neighbors was a homosexual man who liked gardening and planting flowers (and had a domestic partner), and another of your neighbors was a heterosexual man who liked gardening and planting flowers, and both of them told the neighborhood kids they were welcome to come around, and take a look at the garden and the flowers, which neighbor would you fear more on behalf of your grandchild(ren)?

ReplyDeletelol...I just read a lot of this thread...I always found it so jarring to read some of the beautiful reflections on voting-I have great memories of my mom on election day too...she always was one of the "ladies" that volunteered-gave her an opportunity to see friends that she hadn't seen and catch up on the gossip...then I saw Luigi's rant...I don't miss the crazy f*ckers in the Park-that's for sure!

Awareness Notification identifying the rotten apples that need to be voted out only one term commissioners not someone that lost the commission and I was trying again this is not a presidential I election nor is it a federal election. Is equivalent to remind me of Joe Biden sleepy Joe he’s too old and too weak can’t remember his thoughts can’t remember his lines stumbles on his words low energy maybe 25 years ago but not now he’s 78 years old he has early signs of dementia hundreds and hundreds of medical experts have said and come to the conclusion that this guy shouldn’t even be running at his age same goes for sleepy Fred

ReplyDeleteAnd to Mr. Art G parking lot attendant and valet parker with no legal background whatsoever yet he’s dispensing legal advice to silence my opinion intimidate me with some legal language that he knows nothing about just for saying that statement should he win he should be the first one to be let go watch his YouTube videos he specifically talks about views and opinions should be equal on both sides as far as qualifications he has none I haven’t seen anywhere in the Biscayne charter that it says we train while working commissioners he needs to come prepared that’s not gonna happen because art parking attendant and valet driver is not prepared so that ends his election tomorrow that’s why I keep insisting candidates need to have some qualifications let’s make this simple for sleepy Fred I have to go back to the charter but it’s possible that the duty of the mayor should be having a check off list whether it’s waste management waste Pro drainage in the streets code compliance and I have a check off list of what the commission is like passing out homework in the first grade we need to keep this simple because there’s a low level and have them study what they’re expected to perform and how did they perform if they don’t perform the village manager needs to terminate them on the spot and whatever happens with the election tomorrow when will we have a new city manager that can terminate three commissioners this coming week Because only a city manager could let go fire dismiss employees and including city managers. Commissioners are not public officials there public servants there’s a difference it doesn’t matter that they win the election tomorrow or some get reelected tomorrow and when we do have a city manager I’m gonna meet with him or her and give him my opinion and my views of the managers whether men or women should be terminated with multiple reasons

Not for your benefit because again I know you could care less but for others that may. First and foremost I don't look down at anyone or what careers they may have whether they park cars, pick up garbage or hustle hot dogs. What matters to me and this I do agree with you is are they capable and qualified in doing the job. I have a bachelors degree from Barry University, I am an executive that happens to work for a large parking and hospitality company that has locations all across the US. Yes we also employee lawyers, accountants among other professionals. I oversee the Florida market, control a budget of over 60 Million dollars and have had over 600 employees in my region. I have never filed for bankruptcy, I live a comfortable life with my wife of 31 years and have two very successful sons. One has a house here in our Village and the other lives in San Francisco and works for a law firm. I also don't believe in calling people names, talking down to people or demeaning anyone no matter who they are, where they come from or what position in life they may be in. I try to treat everyone with respect whether you are the president of a major corporation or the guy/gal that may park your car. I will tell you what I won't be doing is to continue this back and forth if you continue to try to talk down to me. If you want to have a proper discussion about any topic and can be respectful of my opinion whether you agree or not Ill be happy to engage. ReplyDeleteThank you Louie for your questions, so allow me to answer them. I have made it clear form day one that I do not align myself with anyone period. I am running to represent what is in the best interest for the majority of the residents of BP, not for any group or clique that may exists. I also believe everything should be on the table and we should look at any and every opportunity we have to make things better, cut costs and put the interests of the residents before those that are elected to represent them. This is not about me this is about us and if you think for a minute that I am running for myself you are sadly mistaken who in there right mind would want to put themselves in this position. I believe that the idea of merging with Miami Shores has been discussed in the past and it is my understanding the MS wanted nothing to do with us. As far as NM is concerned it may not be a good idea if you are seriously concerned with maintaining your property value. If you think we have corruption and mismanagement here I don't think NM is the answer. Louie I am running because I am well aware that we have serious issues and I want to help try and resolve those issues.
