You Have A Decision To Make. Or You Already Made It.

One person too many mentioned it, and I got curious.  So sue me.  I wanted to see what Milt Hunter was going on...and on, and on, and on, and on...about.  So I went to his blog to read his sputterings.  There were three recent posts, which Milt presented as his synthesis -- no need to ask questions, or even contact the candidates -- as to what the two incumbents (Tudor and Kennedy) and the former Commissioner (I) were about.

I found it not possible to read Milt's whole production about Mac Kennedy.  Suffice it to say that Dr Milton Hunter has applied to Mac a diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, presumably based on what he gleaned from Readers' Digest, or wherever he gets his psychiatric knowledge.  I didn't get terribly far into Milt's explication, because it was intellectually faulty from the outset, purely nasty, and WAY too long.

Next, Milt dealt with Will Tudor, of whom he mostly disapproves.  In fact, Milt approves of only two things about Tudor.  One is that he recommended the creation of two new boards, one of which Milt claims to believe has "done some [unrevealed] things for the community."  Presumably, Milt thinks the other one didn't do anything for the community, and the one Milt presumably thinks did "some things for the community" hasn't met since 2019.  The other Tudor feature of which Milt doesn't disapprove is that Tudor knows his place as a Commissioner, in that he doesn't interfere.  But this reads as just the other way of expressing Milt's otherwise complaint that Tudor doesn't do anything, illustrated, for example, by Milt's complaint that Tudor "[turned] a blind eye to Tracy Truppman when she was running roughshod over our Charter and residents."  So it's hard to figure out what Milt thinks of Tudor.  And maybe he telegraphs or summarizes it at the end by suggesting that perhaps we could do worse than Tudor, but the question is whether or not we couldn't do better.  Not a ringing endorsement, but, as Milt himself says, he wishes he had more to say, but "it is what it is."

If most of Milt's unloading was on Mac, I was his second favorite target.  He begins by calling me a "troll," by which he says he refers to the internet, and he soon enough reveals the products of his attempts to "harvest," or mine, or trawl, or troll, this blog for what he tells himself is dirt.  A lot of what Milt produces is like that.  It would take very little attention or time to read what Milt believes are the characteristics of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which he thinks characterize Mac Kennedy, and realize whom they vastly better describe.  Likewise, Milt refers to what he calls my "twisted pretzel logic."  (Yes, it's redundant, but he's probably a fan of Steely Dan.  So am I.)  And what he declares as my "comfort in lying and misrepresentations in order to prop up...ambiguous narratives."  I have said before about Milt, and it bears saying again, that he's boxing with his own shadow.  Just to take one tiny example, Milt recalls that once when I ran for Commission I "secured a last place finish, edging out Harvey Bilt by a mere six votes."  This is minor, of course, but if I had more votes than did someone else, then I didn't come in last.  But Milt is dedicated to his non-reality-based narratives, and he tells it the way he likes it told.

Milt spends time on what he apparently likes to think of as my character flaws.  Top of the list?  I don't say the pledge of allegiance.  And Milt invents his own reasons for my refusal.  (No, of course he never asked me.  That might ruin the..."narrative.")

Another story Milt seems to like to tell himself is about my imagined alliances.  He can "remember" "only" one time Roxy Ross and I did not vote in lock step.  Well, I guess it's to Milt's credit that he reveals he's relying on his memory, which I suppose he is indirectly admitting might not be complete.  Milt also tells himself that Mac Kennedy is my "BFF," and he's sure I'm in some sort of cahoots with Mac.  Milt has no way to know about how many things Mac and I disagree, and he clearly doesn't care: "Narrative."

Milt makes three other complaints about me, and I think they're important.  One is that I pushed for higher taxes.  That's just one way of looking at it, but Milt is right.  The other way to look at it is that I wanted the Village better funded, so it could accomplish more.  That perspective doesn't reduce to as captivating a sound bite, but it's actually much more accurate.  Second, Milt complains that I wanted the Village to address our drainage problem.  Milt implies, of course, that the Village doesn't really have a drainage problem, and that the wish to address it is somehow corrupt.  But Milt is right about that.  I did, and do, want the Village to address the drainage problem.  And we're beginning to see a pattern with Milt.  Anything that costs money is something Milt will resist.  The same goes for Milt's other criticism of me, although Milt had to sidestep reality to make the complaint.  He noted my ongoing argument with Dan Keys over median development.  True, I've been arguing with Dan about that for years.  I think with better medians, we have a better Village.  But Milt has constructed a false and straw argument that I ever, once, suggested the Village pay to improve the medians.  I did not.  I said that if P&P would provide a comprehensive median scheme, I suspected that Village residents who have medians in their blocks would themselves pay for the improvements. And maybe others would, too.  No, of course Milt wouldn't, but I didn't necessarily mean Milt.  I meant Village residents who care about the Village.  And about their own surroundings.

An interesting swipe Milt thinks he's taking at me is regarding what he tells himself was my failure to recognize any imperfections in the Village manager at the time I was a Commissioner, until, as Milt tells it to himself, "her misconduct slapped [me] in the face, and [I] was forced into action."  No one is perfect.  The then manager wasn't perfect, I'm not perfect, and, if I can be so sacrilegious, Milt isn't perfect.  Nothing was unknown or not recognized.  But we were a team, and we worked together.  What Milt either bizarrely fails to know, or he has somehow forgotten, was that he was the reason I lost confidence in working with the manager.  I came to believe she was unfairly picking on him, and I, as a Commissioner then, couldn't have that.  I had a long talk with Milt about this.  He told me he didn't want my help or support, and he wanted to fight with the manager by himself.  But that wasn't the deal, and it wasn't my job to back away from this.

If it's Milt's idea of decency, I appreciate it.  He quoted me.  He quoted from this blog.  Not, of course, without corrupting what I said, but at least copying the quotes correctly.  I said there were two current Commission candidates whom I could not recommend -- and I clearly gave my reasoning -- and one I strongly recommended Village residents not vote for, also for reasons I made clear.  He concluded that I was "acting as judge and jury here [and] actually having the gall to steer you how to vote."  Which I didn't do, have no way to do, and which was very precisely what Milt himself was going to a tremendous amount of trouble to do.  Just as he did when he did everything to suppress me in 2016, and bring you Tracy, Jenny, and Will.  All of whom he quickly decided were terrible Commissioners.

And Milt ends with his recommendation that I am most deserving of a padded room.  Ah, yes, always the good doctor, Milton Hunter.

The fact is, there are several things Milt said about me -- presented, of course, as indictments, and badly distorted -- with which I don't disagree.  I do want us to do a better job of funding ourselves.  I do want Village improvements, even if they cost money.  Guilty, if you will, as charged.  And even if you took some of Milt's whining and flailing at something like face value, you have a decision to make.  Do you want a better Village, or do you want someone who is mild-mannered?

    1. "Normal?" I don't know. Common? No. Don't you like flowers?

Mac has been tremendously enthusiastic as a Commissioner. If you want to accuse him of being overeager, I might not argue with you. But that kind of dedication is what gets things done. He's very hard-working. I have every confidence he wants what's best for the Village that you and I share with him. I've voted for him twice already: this past December, and now. I'm positive my votes were correct.

Can you talk more about your complaints and criticisms of Mac? Can you say more about what you don't like about him, and what makes him seem to you to be a "bad apple?"

    3. Well, you present two kinds of issues. Let's talk about them. The first is about Mac Kennedy, and your sense that he takes up too much time in meetings. I agree with you. He does. There's tremendous quality there, but he does take too much time to make his points. He is, in my opinion, more complete than the situation calls for, at least in terms of public discussion. A lot of what he does, which is very important to do, should be done "behind the scenes," with conclusions concisely presented at meetings.

Your other issue is that you don't seem to be satisfied with anyone, now or for the 30 years that you've researched. You seem to describe everyone as dysfunctional, and some as corrupt. I'm happy to have you as a neighbor, but I must confess I'm curious why you chose to move here. Everything you thought you knew about the Park was negative, and you seem only to have proved yourself right. Not a happy experience for you. Where did you live before five years ago? How long did you live there, and how was it there? Why did you move, and why did you choose BP?

What would you like to see in a Commission? And let me tell you you're not the first person to decide BP shouldn't exist as a separate municipality. But very few people want to give up, as you already do. The vast majority of us have decided to do the best with what we have, deal with our limitations, and appreciate the reasons we moved here. Maybe in retrospect, you would say you don't have legitimate reasons to have moved here, and maybe it seems to you like a mistake. I'm sorry if you feel that way. But assuming we're not going to fold, what would you like to see us do? Once you figure that out, then you can consider which prospective Commissioners (yourself included?) are most likely to make that happen.

But say what you'd like to see us do, assuming we're not going to dismantle ourselves, and give ourselves away to the county. (That's what it would be. MSV isn't interested, and CNM has plenty of its own problems. We'd wind up as part of unincorporated county, like Peachtree, and the section where Miami Country Day is, and just north of there.)

I’ll keep this simple Fred Until you attend the meetings you really can’t know from the outside looking in But after attending a couple of dozen meetings I realize quickly this game park is a beautiful area I lived on Miami Beach since 1972 and then moved here in 2015 Downsize to a smaller community only to find out Extremely dysfunctional it doesn’t work Fred simple it doesn’t work Biscayne Park is a mess politically The neighborhood is beautiful the village commission is horrible What goes on in the Village of Biscayne Park and never ever happen in Miami Beach or a bigger city this mirror is what goes on in Opa Locka But this commission is worse And again it needs to be dismantled Not the beautiful roads and houses that are in Biscayne Park the people that are trying to run it They’re running it into the ground and the sooner we fix it and vote them all out and dismantle it it’ll continue for another 30 years

    5. Luigi,

I'm sorry to say you've seen us at our worst. I agree with you that since the end of 2016, we have been grossly dysfunctional, but we're not always like that. I myself grew up on the Beach, and I've lived between Miami Beach and the Boston area my whole life, until I moved to BP in 2005. We had a very functional Commission from 2006 through 2009 (with the exception of one highly problematic Commissioner), and it's been spotty since then. The brightest light has been Roxy Ross, who is leaving the Commission permanently right now. It sounds like you and I just disagree about Mac Kennedy, but I think he's terrific. I completely agree with you that he talks much more than he should, but his heart is in the very right place, and he wants good things for us. For himself, for you, for me, and for the whole Village.

I have attended Commission meetings faithfully since the end of 2005. I was a Commissioner myself from 2013 to 2016. So I'm more than familiar with the experience of attending, and now watching on Zoom, Commission meetings. I am in no way on the outside looking in. Unless you meant you were on the outside looking in.

Give Mac more of a chance. Help displace Will Tudor (vote against him), and I think you'll see something you'll like. The big problem right now, and for the past several months, is that Will joins with Ginny O'Halpin and Dan Samaria to paralyze the Village. The Commission just before that was more actively destructive, but this Commission majority is inert. And since maintenance is always necessary, then inertia is corrosive in its own way.

Don't give up on Mac yet. I don't mean to "pull rank" on you, but my guess is that I know Mac, and BP politics, better than you do. Can I possibly ask you to trust me on this?

      Fred

PS: And consider getting involved. Does "downsizing" mean retired? Time on your hands? Join a board. You love flowers and plants and stuff. See if there's an opening on the Parks and Parkways board. If there is, they might love to have you.

  5. Well, I don't know what to say about the exchange between Lugi and Fred, but I'll try.

I'm going to assume that the residents of the Village do not want BP to become part of unincorporated Miami-Dade County, and make no mistake that's what would happen if BP is dis incorporated. It certainly won't help the Village's property values, so you might want to rethink that goal. As Fred suggests, instead of burning the place to the ground let's try to work with what we have and get the ship righted again.
I would suggest that we start by sending Will Tudor home, so that's one dysfunctional Commissioner gone. Fred already stated the reasons, I agree with him and don’t need to reiterate them. We can’t do much about Dan and Ginny without a recall, that’s expensive and time consuming. So that leaves a vote for what I consider the best three of the six candidates to move the Village forward, coincidentally first or last name in alphabetical order, Art, Fred and Mac AKA Gonzalez, Jonas and Kennedy.

As to Fred’s blog post, Milton has created his own reality using selected information, in order to make his argument and he’s not going to let “all” the facts get in the way of that argument.

Fred has been involved in the Village shortly after he became a resident of BP in ’05. He was on the P & Z board, as well as the code review board and later he was on the Biscayne Park Foundation, at some point he became its President. The next step was he ran for office and was elected as a Commissioner in 2013, that term finished in Nov 2016, he ran for reelection but was defeated. That’s when the dysfunction and trouble began, when Tracy, Jenny and Will became the majority. Many of the residents that originally supported Tracy and Company and began the ABF movement (Anyone but Fred), but, in the end realized their grave error and turned against Tracy and Company.*

Fred had been pushing an agenda for art in public places for some time and in 2011 the Village received the first donation of a sculpture that was placed in Griffing Park on 6th Ave between 113th and 115th St. This sculpture, Triax Alpha V, paid for mostly by Fred, was the first of three sculptures that are now owned by the Village. Fred was involved with obtaining all three sculptures. One of the things Fred accomplished while on the BP Foundation was Food & Tunes held at the Rec Ctr.

As a Commissioner, Fred was involved with the decisions that led to the construction of Village Hall, the rehabilitation of the Log Cabin and outsourcing sanitation. In other words, when Fred was on the Commission stuff got done.

If the worst thing that can be said about Fred is that he is brutally honest sometimes, contrast that with Will, Ginny and Dan that seem to be completely out of touch, disengaged or both. I’ll take brutally honest and someone that gets stuff done every time.

*Rox and I were adamantly opposed to Tracy and Company getting elected.

    1. Oh, Chuck...

As you said, I moved here in (the middle of) '05. I ran for Commission in '13. So I observed eight years, which is four Commissions, before I ran. I was generally content enough, until what started as Steve Bernard eventually precipitated a majority of Bryan Cooper, Noah Jacobs, and Barbara Watts. That Commission was highly dysfunctional, and ending that majority, by at least displacing Jacobs, was the reason I ran. Cooper didn't run for re-election anyway, and Jacobs was in fact displaced, so the Village's problem was solved, even without my being elected. But I was in fact elected, I served three years, and I formed a functioning majority with Rox and David Coviello. And I agree with you that we accomplished a lot. And it should not be omitted that a critically important part of what allowed us to accomplish what we did was the best of Heidi Siegel.

Perhaps unfortunately, or perhaps it wouldn't have mattered anyway, I did not take your repeated advice, and flogging, and I did not campaign energetically and whole-heartedly in 2016, and what I assumed would happen happened: the Truppman-led wrecking crew.

That problem might have been corrected last December or this January, with the continued presence of Dan Samaria, the election of Ginny O'Halpin, and the insurance provided by Rox, but Dan mysteriously lost his grounding, Ginny turned out to be empty, both of them relied on the breathtakingly bad advice offered by our friend, Milt Hunter, and Tudor joined them for the ride to nowhere. So we're back where we were with Cooper, Jacobs, and Watts. It's not as bad as Truppman, et al. And since we're apparently still stuck with Ginny and Dan, the only thing we can now easily do to save ourselves is replace Tudor. Which I very much hope we do.

It's way more than public art. (And haven't you left out a number -- sometimes a considerable number -- of people who financially made the public art happen? I'm thinking, just to take an example, of...you? And Chester. And the Kuhls. And Andrew Olis. And several or many more. This was not remotely a one-man accomplishment. Even the lowly and ambition-lacking Noah Jacobs "contributed," by agreeing that the Village could accept what was to him a "free" sculpture, and spending Village money on a beautiful mural.)

Anyway, as I've analogized before, I think of myself as like the helper in the sport of curling, who keeps the ice nice and clean and smooth, so the heavy hitters (Rox, David Coviello, Mac) can make the magic happen. I wouldn't say I don't contribute anything on my own. I do. And sometimes, I've offered more than others wanted. But that's OK. We have to agree on things. And if the one thing we agree on is making the Village a better place, then I'm content, and I don't concern myself with the details and particulars.

So, yeah, I'm running again. My main goal is the one you stated, which is to remove the dead weight that helps Ginny and Dan paralyze Village functioning. I agree it would be even better to have Ginny and Dan out of there, but I also agree with you that it's unlikely and too costly and disruptive to do that. If we can make them a meaningless minority, that will no longer affect, and impede, Village functioning, we will have done enough.

Yeah, I'm "brutally honest." And I don't reserve time for, or appreciate, aimless chit-chat. We have things to do, and we should do them. That's what a government is for.

      Fred

    2. Two other details, Chuck. If I remember the numbers correctly, I did not pay for most of Triax Alpha V. I believe I paid less than half the total cost. I laid out the money, and I got reimbursed by whatever donations we received (more than half the cost). We did the same thing, with my laying out the money, for the second piece, which was the Lorensen in front of the log cabin. The reimbursement to me was better that time. I think I might have paid about $1000. I'm not sure. You laid out the money for "The Ballplayer," which is also in Griffing Park. I think we were aiming for enough reimbursement for you to pay about $750, but we didn't make it. You wound up "leaving on the table" about twice that. If anyone wants to slide Chuck a little more reimbursement, PLEASE DO! Tens, twenties, fifties...they all add up.

What we donors -- several or many of us -- did, by the way, was choose something we liked for the Village, bought it, and offered it to the Village as a gift. We bought three different pieces, and three different Commissions all accepted the offers. The system changed for the mural, where the Village commissioned an artist -- it turned out to be Cecilia Lueza, whose proposal got the most votes -- to paint a mural (birds) on a wall at the recreation center. We were going to take up the then usual collection, but the then Commission decided instead just to take the money from Village coffers. It seems to me it was about $2500. And we haven't had a public art program since, except for the very small pieces stuck in the ground along the walkway to the recreation building. It would be great to crank up again, though.

Second, the Foundation was five people. I didn't do anything we didn't all do. I don't remember whose idea "Food and Tunes" was. Steve Taylor was the Foundation president at the time, Victor Romano was there at that time, and I don't remember the other two people (apart from myself). We had some turnover in the first year or so. I thought "Food and Tunes" was a great concept, and we all had fun with it. I'd love to see it come back. For the record, I did not particularly like the name. But everyone else did, and it worked well for many Village residents. (You hear me, Jorge, Yesenia, and Rafa?)

    1. Well, Luigi, you raise a few points. First of all, it's hard to forget that you do seem dissatisfied with everyone, current and past. So I don't have a clear picture of what would please you, or what you want. You haven't really stated a goal. All you've done is pointed out what seems to you to be dysfunctional.

In the past five years, we've had two regular managers, and two interim managers. We've had three mayors. It could have been four, but Tracy's stooges re-elected her.

I have no way to tell you what the involvement of Roxy and Chuck Ross has done for this Village. It could even have been more, but so many small people were so intimidated by their talent and dedication that they could only think to try to suppress the Rosses. Too bad for us.

The Commission stipend used to be much more. Over the past couple of decades, a couple of Commissions have voted to reduce their own stipends eventually to what it is now. If you're saying that there are small municipalities where the part time elected officials donate their time ($1 a year seems to be standard in those municipalities), I would agree you're right. Should we do that, too? Probably so.

The Village mobile phones was Tracy Truppman's idea, so that she and her stooges could claim that the only phone anyone would need to check for Village-related business would be the Village-supplied phone. "Never mind that man behind the curtain." You don't have to check my landline records, or my personal mobile phone records. There's nothing relevant there. It was a total scam, and I agree with you that these phones should be surrendered, and we should do what we've always done: rely on Commissioners' normal communication platforms. When you have honest elected officials, you don't have a need for scammy Village-issued phones.

But again, you're making your complaints very clear. What would you like to see in place of what you don't like? What kind of Village do you want to inhabit?

  9. Knowing where we’ve been is helpful. But I’m hoping we get commissioners who 1) do their homework, 2) stay connected to the diverse opinions of the community and 3) lead us into the future instead of looking backward to halcyon days that probably (it seems upon reading all of this) never existed.

    1. Luigi,

Some of what you say is vague and hard to follow, but I do want to agree with you about three things: let's end the Commission stipend, let's surrender the Village-issued phones, and let's establish a professional maintenance plan for our greenery.

If I get elected, I will decline the stipend, I will refuse the Village-issued phone, and I will ask the Commission to make our green spaces a high priority.

    2. Louie,

It's hard to understand most of what you wrote, but, apparently, based on your "Who paid for the gas comment", you imagine there is a patrol car for Citizens Crime Watch, no this does not exist. Further, there is no budget provided by the Village in any case, all costs come from my own pocket. Fortunately, the costs, mostly web hosting related, are minimal and for years I attended Monthly Crime Watch meetings in Doral with the County. Again, I never received any reimbursement to travel to Doral and no compensation as I am a volunteer.

I hope you will vote for Fred, as he has some of the same complaints that you do. When Fred was in office, he never took a salary, Fred and I opposed paying for Commissioner cell phones. The cell phone issue started with Tracy and Company.

Lastly, make no mistake, last time I checked, Miami Shores had no interest in Biscayne Park. Don’t believe me, call the Village of Miami Shores Manager Tom Benton, if they have changed their mind that might be something that should be further explored.

I’m not sure what issue you might have with my wife, Rox Ross, as all she ever did, was try to assist you as best she could.

    3. You and your dummy companion Are like relatives that come over eat all the food and never want to leave well it’s time to leave there’s no more food in Biscayne Park for you out with the old Guard !!! And if you’re so concerned you should put some thought into Mac having Flower exhibits for children and his front lawn that raises some concerns Are the children with their parents or are they unattended Does Mac have any experience with children background training Has he been vetted to be around children

    4. Chuck,

Sometimes, I'm too long-winded, and sometimes, I'm not long-winded enough. I did mean to respond to Luigi/Louie about that.

Luigi, you see lots of positive things the Rosses have done. Go look at the log cabin and the administration building. What's less visible to you is things like the results of MLK Days of Service, because most of those were clean-up missions, and whatever they accomplished had to be redone in time. It would not be possible for you to see the rigor with which the Village books were kept, and the level of professionalism of Village government, but that, too, was often the Rosses. We've already talked about public art.

As Chuck told you, his position as CrimeWatch chair was unfunded. It was voluntary. Joe Chao did it before Chuck did. Someone would do this job because they like it. And because they want to be of service to the Village. Chuck was amazing at it. (You can't see that, either. If you're on Chuck's CrimeWatch list, which you should be, and which is multiples of the list he inherited, you'll see his e-mails. At least you would have, until Tracy put the lid on CrimeWatch -- with which Tudor never expressed any disagreement, I might add.) But whatever Chuck did never cost the Village and its residents a cent. We just benefitted from it. Because Chuck likes doing it, and he's good at it. You wouldn't know, because it was before your time here, but Chuck was also named CrimeWatch Chairperson of the Year in the county, I think maybe more than once.

I don't know what energy you have about the Rosses, or what energy anyone has about them. They are two amazing people, and they have done worlds for the Village. I have no doubt that some people are intimidated by that level of ability and dedication, because few of us anywhere are like that, and some of the smallest of us might want to try to make ourselves feel better about our own comparative inferiority by limiting or diminishing the Rosses. Sad. And grossly unappreciative.

Chuck says all Rox ever did was try to assist you. That leads me to think she spoke to you. You spoke to Rox Ross, and you don't recognize how smart and caring and knowledgeable and dedicated she is? To me, it seems impossible to miss. Maybe you're just upset about something else, and you weren't paying attention. Rox is soft-spoken, and Chuck is not, but the qualities of either one of them aren't subtle. And you've only been here for five years, so you haven't seen what Rox, especially, has put up with, and the grace with which she's put up with it. We're all very lucky Village residents, because of Rox and Chuck Ross.

      Fred

    5. Thank you Fred for the kind comments,
I should point out we don't keep or touch the Village books, but we do try to question when necessary.

  11. I grew up on Miami Beach and loved living there just like we now love living here. No city is perfect it is up to its citizens to work together to make it better. MB had an has many problems. A former Mayor went to jail for bribery, police shootings, code officers arrested for corruption, top building official arrested and charged with doling out illegal city favors in exchange for free nights at luxury hotels, I can go on and on. Not to mention it was ranked the 5th most corrupt City by the Miami New Times,
Opa-locka was 1st. The point I would like to make is that there is no such thing as Shangri-La its up to all of us to make it better. If you're not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

  12. Art check into this Flower exhibition for children what’s this all about with the commissioner having a flower exhibition for children and his front lawn are the children there unattended or are they there with their parents how old are these children that go to these flower exhibitions this race is tremendous worries Here commissioners having exhibition flowerbeds in the front lawns for children !!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Mr. Di Raimondo I'm trying really hard not to read into what you're saying but its quite obvious. Your concern is not with the flowers but with Mac trying to attract children for some nefarious reason. Like that guy with the net in chitty chitty bang bang. Well sir if I may, I will give you a little free advice. Be careful when you make unsubstantiated accusations towards anyone without any proof. A feeling is not proof of anything.
P.S. I have not seen any free ranging children in our neighborhood.

  14. Art you’re complaining to be a commissioner Art You know there’s a lot of wrong in Biscayne Park Well you wouldn’t be running I hope you win and make a change for all what’s wrong and Biscayne Park and there’s tons of wrong and Biscayne Park and you know clear and well The past and present Make a difference The old guard and the newbies need to go !!! They just bogging down to Village of Biscayne Park with so much nonsense have you attended the zoom meetings have you been listening to what they talk about it’s a circle it’s a maze of nothing name one thing that newbie and the old guard have accomplished zero You should call in for the cell phone billing of these issues cell phones to commissioners who are they calling I guarantee you that a ton of personal calls will be revealed And that’s not the intent of the cell phones the intent of the cell phones with the communicate with the mayor The city manager parks and recreation sanitation issues Not personal calls !!!!! So with that said be wise and pay attention !! We’re in a basket of rotten apples Let’s get some fresh green apples !! Good luck tomorrow and again make a difference 👍👍👍

  15. Art you need to understand The constitution the first amendment freedom of speech I suggest you study it clearly You cannot and will not muffle freedom of speech in Biscayne Park

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mr. Art you shouldn’t be dispensing any advice On a very serious subject freedom of speech !!! Trying to suppress the law it certainly won’t get you voted in It’s very disappointing This is a blog It’s meant to express opinions thoughts On all subjects Study the first amendment !!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I do understand the constitution, first amendment, freedom of speech and I am certainly not trying to muzzle you nor anyone. If you feel that this is what you would like to continue to discuss please feel free. I also understand the definition of defamation of character and I was simply trying to help you but if you want to continue to exercise your first amendment right you certainly have that right, have at it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well you are you confusing definition of character with freedom of speech I think you’re very confused This is an open discussion an open platform if you continue thinking this way I doubt you’ll be a very successful commissioner Just more of the same you cannot suppress someone’s thoughts Not mine or anyone else whether it’s Biscayne Park or another city I suggest you stop it immediately and if you can’t play by the rules don’t get involved in public blogs you’re going to hurt your chances on election day This old guard and the newbies basically made it impossible for you to win the election But you don’t see that art Sad Am I the only one that’s getting bombarded with emails from these candidates Somewhere in the neighborhood of more than 25 constant emails including one yesterday You’re telling me I don’t have the right to react to my thoughts Are you reading the Public blogs I suggest you read every line item correctly Advice and opinion of two different subjects Don’t mix them both up I’m trying to help you now

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thank you I appreciate your help.

    ReplyDelete
  20. There’s a very interesting blog someone like you needs to read every line item It’s posted by a very long time resident of Biscayne Park It speaks What’s on his mind and his thoughts Far longer than your residence in Biscayne Park in far longer than the newbies in Biscayne Park Posted by someone that’s been here close to 30 years let’s see if you could figure it out The last time I checked you have no legal background whatsoever your background is in parking cars What possible input can you have as a commissioner in my thoughts is zero I wasted a vote on you I realize it now after threatening blogs to me You need to retract them And then google the definition of public blogs Read every line item Because obviously you’re not reading anything only what you wanna read You’re just more of the same you’re not gonna win anyway so why waste your thoughts waste of time

  21. What part of thank you and I appreciate your help offend you?
Perhaps you should consider running Mr. Di Raimondo you seem to have all the answers. Or perhaps you simply like to complain. Regardless, if I am elected even with my limited knowledge of parking cars I will be at your service. Now I have to go to work and park cars.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Take some of the commissioners with you they’ll help you park cars today When you get home make sure you read the blog from the gentleman that’s been in Biscayne Park for close to 30 years you may learn something

  23. I’ve checked with the department of election As far as rules on election day with candidates I didn’t see anywhere where it’s allowed to give out a gift or a gesture of something that has monetary value In this case there’s a particular candidate to be giving out seeds for flowers. On election day at the polls across the street Will seeds have a value if you go to Home Depot seeds and ask for free you have to buy them I think someone should take notice I see that is inappropriate behavior gifting someone for a vote It’s not a gesture handing out a flyer is OK but not giving candy seeds or anything that has monetary value before someone boats across the street from the voting booths If that was the case if it were to be allowed then we all could write a check Come here get a check and vote for me it shouldn’t be anything giving has Monetary value something that normally you purchase these Items Flyers are OK as I read in the rules and regulations of the Florida statutes but giving out monetary value is not

    1. He says you can have the seeds whether or not you voted, or whether or not you voted for him. Which he would have no way of knowing anyway. But teach him a lesson he'll never forget: don't take the seeds.

  24. Go to the division of election bureau rules and regulations there’s a link on myflorida.com. Specifically talks about monetary value and objects Donating to his campaign is fine Supporting a candidate is fine But giving a gift to someone near the voting booths on election day is not fine Do you think that’s OK I’ve never seen that anywhere 67 years old now I see that and that’s in a way of Persuading someone to vote for you Giving them a gift before they vote No no no no no Whether it’s a dollar bill or a piece of candy that cost one penny It shouldn’t be allowed To reward someone for the vote i’ve never seen that in any voting scenario There are rules on election day you can’t even put signs near the entrance of the voting section Let alone passing out gifts it’s a no no

    1. Well, Luigi, when you get to be my age, you won't stress yourself out so much.

I'll be at the polls all day tomorrow. I'll be "giving away" campaign cards, if anyone wants one any more. I'll be giving away my beautiful smile, too, except no one will see it, because I'll have on a face mask.

What's a milkweed seed worth? I don't know. Nothing? And it's much more likely anyone who takes one will take it after they vote, not before. So a milkweed seed would turn your head, huh?

As I said, Mac will never know for whom you voted. Or if you really did. And you've made super clear you're not voting for Mac. But if you're enough of a sucker, he'll give you one of those valueless milkweed seeds anyway. He's just into plants.

I'm telling you, though, if you really want to punish him, don't take the seed.

  25. Fred are you passing out any gifts on election day ? Just curious ? I’ve never seen that happen anywhere then we also might as well set a barbecue stands and give our cookies and brownies and Dollar bills This is absurd crazy should not be allowed needs to be stopped

    1. I don't have to pass out gifts. I'm a gift all by myself. Just the majesty of my presence is all the gift anyone could possibly want.

I remember your name from campaigning, so I know I was at your house and spoke to you or someone. Come by my throne and say hello tomorrow. I'll be there all day. Hat, "Fred Jonas for Commissioner" tee shirt, black mask.

  26. Stressful not at all Just very interested and was very wrong You may phrase it anyway you like giving a gift on election day from across the street from the voting section. It’s not allowed whether it’s With this candidate or anyone other candidate giving a gift a seed has a value Check with Home Depot and ask them if they are any seeds for free there today Treating this like a carnival That’s only before the election not on election day near or by voting sections I suggest you go to myflorida.com Personally I have nothing against this particular candidate I just don’t agree with his views I believe this better fit candidates than him I believe I just wish that more people would’ve participated and running for commissioner a bigger choice more selection

  27. He wasn’t picked on nor targeted. I told you that back then and I stand by it. If I recall (details are murky) the then code officer got a complaint about the condition of his back wall by his then new rear neighbor. She had just put in a pool and didn’t want to look at his cbs wall. (She also complained a lot about the Spanish music played at the church. And made comments that if it was “regular” music that would be ok). Anyhoo..... he was approach by the Code officer — unbeknownst to me — and without citation or official action asked to fix his wall. Next thing you know I have you, the then mayor and another commissioner calling me with crazy stories as told by him about what I did. Considering I didn’t know he was approached about his wall until I got these calls tells you how much I “knew” and how this was a big ole nothing burger or a grown man getting his panties in a wad. You choose. I had no reason to lie to my 5 bosses. After all I had taken a lot heat and stood with honesty and integrity while I answered to you all about much bigger issues than a wall. Removing the then beloved police chief, saving money by outsourcing sanitation, and doing right by the restoration of the log cabin to mention a few. If he wants to think that I left because of his “power” so be it. But the truth of the matter is that he would refuse to even answer his door when I went over to speak to him about his concerns. Not such a big man after all.

    1. Heidi,

If you want an apology from me, you have it.

His having been approached by Reggie was, as you say, unbeknownst to you, so you could not have talked to me about that. In fact, you're now also clarifying that it was not even on the record (no citation, etc).

You can say Milt got (and apparently still has) his panties in a wad. I would say he's what we sometimes call a "metrosexual." Either way, he's fastidious, among other things, and it was not believable to me that he had what would have amounted to Code violations, or any other cause of unsightliness. And I looked. I didn't see anything out of place. He just doesn't live that way. So I made what I suppose was the mistake of believing his view of things. Yes, you made very clear that he was wrong. (Mistaken, to give him as much benefit of doubt as is humanly possible.)

On a separate note, I'm terribly sorry for all the heat you wrongly took about the job you did so well. I'm grateful to you for those projects and initiatives every day. I always tried to support you, and say you were not wrong. I did that publicly and privately.

"Big man?" A legend in his own mind. But the circumstances of that moment were such that I couldn't with confidence write him off.

      Fred

    2. Fred, no apology is needed. I stand very proud of the job I did. I had no intention at that point of renewing my contract. I was “tired”. The timing just worked out. Trust me — I didn’t leave because of wadded panties.

As I look at the last couple years in this country, I am so proud that I played a major role in stopping police bad behavior towards people of color. I was questioned, accused and mistrusted for doing the right thing. I’m ok with that.

We need an oversight committee watching these commissioners mayor code compliance the whole gang let’s call it a clan Term limits on the commissioners one round only not lingering for eight years it’s not fair it’s a small city we need diversity change There’s one sitting commissioner that’s absolutely a zombie he’s brain dead He’s in the outer limits The sad thing is we’re going to have him around for two more years Biscayne Park needs oversight a board that they have to answer to him performance Their abusive They think they’re running the country its only 3000 people in here We need a strong mayor take charge set the tone Why are there so many changes why do we keep losing mayors resigning commissioners leaving Police Chief’s leaving Something is wrong it’s broken We have one commissioner that’s endorsing the police chief to become the city manager I have it in writing Come on now what is this musical chairs With switch positions on the whim of one commissioner This is Truly Musical chair operation switching positions within the city Term limits oversight committee a board that oversees And you need some type of matter general experience at the least qualification We did have one mayor that was an attorney I think his name was David there’s been so many forget the names But he moved out of Biscayne Park pretty quick Term limits strong mayor oversight committee No more musical chairs
